Out of the blue, Michael Reyman (Anthony Quinn), a robust and flamboyant former matinee idol contacts Marian Bennett (Katharine Hepburn), an opinionated loner and retired actress who lit up the silver screen in the 1930s and ‘40s, and tries to rekindle their flame from some 50 years ago. Unnerved and wary, Marian slowly yields to Reyman’s considerable charm—unaware that he has an ulterior motive linked to their tempestuous past.
